For most families starting with a high quality puppy then imprinting and socializing for the first 4 months is the best way to go.

During this crucial time in development called the HUMAN SOCIALIZATION PHASE it is important for your puppy to bond

to you and your lifestyle. The puppy needs to learn about all types of people, places, and things. Without this then accepting your

cat or baths or young children or car rides... can be more difficult. Finding an adult GSDs who is trained and socialized to meet

your exact needs and lifestyle is possible but not always easy.
